Hi, my name is Tanya and I am the creator of PurpleBerryInk. I have been selling digital and printed party items online for a few years now, and I love my job!
With a background in Photography, I found myself enjoying learning new things with Photoshop and eventually transitioned into creating my own new designs instead of editing my photos. I began selling my designs and quickly found that I had a small business up and running. I created PurpleBerryInk in 2012, as a 'berry' fun place to find personalized invitations, thank you cards and so many more party items!
I strive to create fun and personalized items for special events in people's lives. I know how important birthdays and other celebrations can be, and it is important to me that my party items match your needs. I keep working until you love your items.
Owner and Designer
When I was 18, I went to college to get a BS in Secondary Education in Mathematics (this means that I wanted to become a high school Math Teacher). Yes, I'm a little geeky, I love Calculus and Computers! But try not to hold that against me, haha. In the meantime, I met my Mr. Wonderful and got married between my Junior and Senior Year. Now, at this point I had a 4 year plan (you know how our plans go!).
Year 1: Finish College.
Year 2: Become a substitute teacher and see which schools I like and don't like; get some teaching experience.
Year 3 & 4: get a fulltime teaching job at a great school; get some more experience and build some relationships with schools.
Well, as I'm sure you can guess, my plans were not God's plans! After 3 months of marriage I found out I was pregnant! I had just turned 21, and this was not my plan. I worked fulltime thru my pregnancy at a local factory (my college job) and after my son was born I became a stay-at-home mom. Every Friday night I packed up my son and shipped him off to the grandparents and went to work on Saturdays. But, boy, was I bored thru the week. I wanted something to do. I felt guilty about being bored with my little blessing. I loved being a Mom, but I wanted to find something to do with my time at home.
So, I started searching the internet for anything legit that I could do from home. And when I say legit, I mean a real job, not just a scam. And trust me; I tried out lot of the scams!!! I paid hundreds of dollars to learn to become a 'medical billing specialist' only to find that the promised job at the end was a list of phone numbers to the doctors’ offices in the area (all who didn't need my services). I bought websites that I could sell someone else's products....never did figure out how that was even supposed to work. I paid for classes on online marketing; you know, make 1,000's per week in only a few hours! I even tried to become a 'virtual assistant' (a secretary that works from home) and was really close to becoming an online tutor, but none of it worked. Then I got a new DSLR camera and read lots of books on Photography and thought maybe I should branch into wedding photography and portraits. I bought a small set of lights and a few backgrounds and the stand. But I had a hard time selling myself and my abilities to my friends, so it never went very far. I was so frustrated.
By this time I was home full time, no more working Saturdays at my factory job. I had 3 beautiful little children, a boy and two girls; they kept me busy, but I still wanted to do something to help my family (besides couponing). When my son turned 5 we sent him to school; he went to every other day Kindergarten. Now my days were a little more empty (but don't worry, help is on the way!), but I still enjoyed being with my girls.
Then one afternoon we had a play date with a new friend from Kindergarten. This is the day my 'work' life changed! We were having a great time, the other mom and I were just chatting and sharing stories when we got to the topic of work. She said that she sold digital item online (on Etsy). I couldn't believe it, no one was going to pay for something like that, it's not even a real product! But she said she was selling her Christmas Photo cards and people were buying them. So she introduced me to Etsy. This was just the beginning. I was soooo excited!
That night I went on and created and account for myself and got started. As I mentioned earlier, I love photography and was already very familiar with Photoshop, so I started designing! I worked and worked and listed and listed. After two, very long weeks, I had my first sale. I was so excited, all the money I had just put into listing was just earned back in one sale, which felt soooo good. But then when I had to wait another week for my next sale I was starting to get discouraged, but I kept at it.
I started all this at the end of May. My secret goal was to make $1,000 by the end of summer. I didn't tell anyone because my family already new my 'history' of online jobs and they thought I was wasting money on just another get rich quick scheme; but I just kept working and designing and listing. I was thrilled that by the middle of August I had made my first $1,000! And made another $1,000 in September! Life was great; I felt very successful and had a growing business. Since then, it's not been totally smooth sailing, I have many rough patches with Etsy, but I'm still chugging along and creating new designs when I have the time.
After my son's first year of Kindergarten, we decided to homeschool; and we still are. I love teaching my children myself and being so involved in their education. But I have to find time to work. I normally work in the evenings and late at night after everyone else goes to bed. It's not always easy and fun, but I do find enjoyment in my work most nights. I know that not everyone can say they love what they do, but I really do! I love my job!!! I enjoy running my own business and keeping the books and paying my bills, it's all very exciting for me (yes, I already said I was a little geeky, lol). I feel very blessed that God has given me this life for now, and hope that I can run and grow this business for years to come.
Well, this is my little story. I hope you enjoyed reading it and getting to know me a little better.
